Life is for Living

Life is for living
or so I’ve been told.
Some gather riches,
yes, all they can hold.
But what shall it profit
a man, if his goal
demands that he forfeit
his undying soul?

Life is for living.
How shall I define
the quest of my soul—
this longing of mine?
The fame and the fortune
which this world displays
is seldom for more than
a few fleeting days.

Life is for living,
God’s word clearly states,
abundant eternal—
new loves and new hates!
“To save life, we spend it”
for Him who was slain
and wonder of wonders,
we receive it again!

Life is for living
that others may live;
life is for giving
the most we can give!
Forfeiting pleasures
(which soon pass away)
brings joys that are solid
and will never decay.
