Golden Wedding Reflections

Frank and Eva were married October 4, 1942. This photo would have been taken early in their marriage.

“Take the bitter with the sweet,” we often say.
We may not always see but we can pray
and trust the One who knows what lies ahead—
that He’ll supply our needs and daily bread.

So many things can happen which require
a stamina which takes us through the fire.
God’s all sufficient grace can see us through
and guide us in discerning what to do.

Our marriage bond—the mystery unique—
brings satisfaction, when God’s will we seek.
The routine duties, and the commonplace,
are much enhanced by walking in His grace.

What some would call a tragedy may well
turn into blessings we would never sell.
Such times reveal to us what really counts
and prove what friends can mean when trouble mounts.

Our bodies may wear down, as years go by
but faith can strengthen till the day we die.
More praise, less worrying and fears
as we mature throughout the passing years.

The fifty years of marriage don’t seem long.
While we have lived for God and shunned the wrong.
Then, too, we say, “The best is yet to come,”
when we will move into our final home!
