So simple, yet profound the Name—
it’s syllables are two;
the letters five and two the same.
It’s old, yet always new!
Some relegate to fantasy
the life that bore that name.
“It’s for the children,” they contend,
“with imaginary fame.”
The wise and learned feel that they,
the scientific kind,
cannot accept such claims and deeds—
“’Tis for the ignorant mind.”
But strangely, it comes natural
to use that name in slang—
in jest and cursing, seems to give
their conversation “tang.”
He lived two thousand years ago,
yet millions now insist
He is alive and that they share
with Him a daily tryst.
They find release from suffering,
when on His name they call;
and courage to get up and go
when suffering from a fall.
Great kingdoms rise; and kingdoms fall
by its authority,
yet those with true allegiance oft’
seem the minority.
The name of Jesus separates
the false from all that’s true,
yet some still blush to speak that name,
I hope it isn’t you!
