Salt and Spice: That Made My Day!

For the years Frank Nickel pastored Southern Heights Bible Church, he would often print and distribute a little inspirational leaflet to hand out at church or to folks he'd meet in his daily journey. He called it Salt and Spice and it was usually printed on a half-sheet, both sides, of brightly colored paper. A few of these are in the archives and today we transcribe the contents of one, as written by Pastor Nickel for your reading pleasure. Have a nice day!

Chuckle for Today: Ooops!

A lady said to her friend: "When the kids are mean and everything goes wrong, I just drop everything and go and buy myself a new hat."

"Well, that explains it," her friend replied. "I've been wondering about all your new hats."

"A proud man is seldom a grateful man, for he never thinks he gets as much as he deserves. Pride slays thanksgiving, but an humble mind is the soil out of which thanksgiving naturally grows." ~H.W. Beecher

The worth of a mother-in-law:
And Ruth said, "Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge; thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God." (Ruth 1:16)

A thought to ponder:
"Do I owe God more than I am giving Him?"

Before it is too late

If you have a tender message,

or a loving word to say,
do not wait till you forget it,
but speak up this very day.
For the tender word unspoken,
and the letter never sent,
yes, the long forgotten message,
or the wealth of love unspent,
for these some hearts may be breaking
and for these some loved ones wait.
Show them that you care and love them
Now--before it is too late.

That Made My Day!

Some days are hectic, but a single incident or experience may make it all seem worthwhile. "No man liveth to himself;" states the Bible, and often the kind word of a friend may be the key to our succeeding. And we happily confess, "That made my day."

And it may be that some one else is desperately in need of such a lift from us. This may at times call for writing a letter or making a phone call. To us, it may not even seem important. But if we will do our duty at the time God reminds us to do it, then our friend will get that lift just when he/she needs it.

Winston Churchill coined an expression which aptly describes our pattern of life: "Too little--too late!" The struggle at times is so fierce, so that we simply must have the help of a friend to endure it. And when our friends are laid in a casket, how many of us have feelings of guilt because we could have done more for them?

We say we're "too busy," but there are unused moments every day. Then we speak of lost opportunities. Since we never know when the last opportunity may present itself, let us "make the day" of someone today.   FPN
